Bio

Multi-instrumentalist, producer, composer and arranger Joan Barbé was born in Ibiza (Spain) in 1984, and at 6 years old he began his career as an early, versatile and autodidact musician, first as a drummer, later on bass and finally on guitar, the instrument with which he has spent most of his professional career for more than 20 years.

With several albums and tours with own projects and collaborations with artists like Bobby Kimball (TOTO), Fran Cosmo (Boston), Pere Gené (Lone Star), Vargas Blues Band, Dave Jeffs (John Lee Hooker), Miko Weavers (Prince), Gerard Quintana (Sopa de Cabra), Carlos Segarra (Los Rebeldes), Maria del Mar Bonet or Celtas Cortos, among many others, Barbé has played in more than 20 spanish cities and in France, UK and USA. At 15 years old, he was the youngest musician to play at Ibiza Jazz Festival, where he has played many times sharing stage with artists like McCoy Tyner, Branford Marsalis, Jerry González or Pedro Iturralde.

In 2013 he began his solo career with the jazz-fusion and progressive rock album Alter Ego, where he writes and produces all the songs, and plays all the instruments too.

With more than 40 albums as a producer, and about 100 recordings as a professional musician, in 2021 he published Quorum, his 2nd solo album where he also composed and produced all the songs, in addition to recording guitar, bass and drums, where jazz-fusion mixed with funk, progressive rock and even latin music continues to predominate, with influences ranging from Snarky Puppy to Jeff Beck, through Vulfpeck, Dirty Loops, Mike Stern or Dave Weckl.

Musicians like Josep Más ‘Kitflus’ (Serrat, Pegasus, Iceberg), Roque Martínez (Jerry González, Ximo Tébar), David Palau (Alejandro Sanz, Joaquín Sabina, Bill Champlin), Norberto Rodríguez (Juan Perro, Habana Ensemble), Omar Alcaide (Vanesa Martín, Pátax) or Ángela Cervantes (Brit Floyd, Jorge Drexler) collaborate in it.

With that album Barbé received very positive reviews from international musicians Oz Noy (Dave Weckl, Vinnie Colaiuta, John Patitucci) and Bob Lanzetti (Snarky Puppy).
